JazzComms has celebrated its first stage appearance. At the European Communications Summit in Brussels, musician Nicole Johänntgen and communication expert Ivo Banek promoted the art of improvisation as a response to rising insecurity and uncertainty in the world.

The session “Dare to Play” invited communication professionals to move beyond “handrail communication” that focuses on control and risk-avoidance and instead trust in their creativity.
As a role model, the two presenters recommended jazz musicians who find their own voice and expression through improvisation. The performance itself combined speech and music.
About 250 communication professionals attended the two-day congress of the European Association of Communication Directors (EACD) on 8 and 9 June in Brussels.

Be Chief Jazz Officers
“I would love to see colleagues go back to their work and become Chief Jazz Officers,” said Ivo Banek. “They could turn their teams into jazz bands and their meetings into jam sessions – creativity would blossom.”
Nicole and Ivo offer to support managers and teams on this path in workshops.

“Be prepared to not being prepared” and “Jazz up your communication” were two take-aways one participant shared after the session.
“Thank you for the music”, Ivo tweeted after this first performance with Nicole Johänntgen.
